The sixth graduating class finished their studies for a Master of Sports Administration (MCA) at the Russian International Olympic University. 50 graduates from 21 countries received their diplomas. Just like previous times, 20 of them are Foundation fellows who had received Olympic scholarships – a joint initiative between the Foundation and the Russian International Olympic University (RIOU), part of the Vladimir Potanin Fellowship Program. Olympic scholarships include monthly financial aid to cover the costs of education and living expenses at the RIOU campus.

"The 10 months of studies have flown by," said RIOU Rector, Professor Lev Belousov in his opening speech. "These months have turned us into true professionals. Your diplomas have the Olympic rings on them, and that's a mark of quality in the Olympic world. It means you have gained an amazing competitive advantage. Our graduates occupy sports related positions all over the world, and they never lose touch with each other. We have a graduates club. They keep in contact with each other and with the university, and come back to visit us. And the community of Potanin scholarship students is just like a big family. I hear that whenever they travel to other cities, they don't need to book a hotel. They find a fellow student in the city and they're good to go. They always help each other out. I hope you all will be able to make the best use of the unique knowledge and connections you've gained here."

Russian graduates from RIOU include scholarship holders of the Russian Olympic Committee and the Russian Olympians Foundation: Honored Masters of Sports, heads of large sporting venues, members of organizational committees for large-scale sporting events. Anastasia Davydova from St. Petersburg used her experience from working at the Sochi Winter Olympics and in the organizational committee for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, for her studies. "I have practiced ballroom dance since I was 15, and I've always been interested in sports," Anastasia said at the graduation ceremony. "After I'd received a degree in journalism from St. Petersburg State University, I dedicated myself to sports journalism, worked on TV and participated in the organization of the Sochi Olympics and the 2018 World Cup. I had a clear goal: getting a degree in sports management. I considered different programs, including studying abroad. Until I found out that this program was offered at the Russian International Olympic University. I checked their ratings, made up my mind, and then managed to obtain a Potanin Foundation Fellowship Program. I'm very happy I made this choice! I can say in all honesty that I've gained a lot of knowledge over the past year. The professors are amazing: they provided us with solid theoretical knowledge which helps solve practical problems."

The Master of Sport Administration is the central program at RIOU, which trains managers for the Russian and international sports industry. For the third time in history, the program has reaffirmed its high standing in the annual global rating of educational programs on sports management by Sport Business International magazine. RIOU's Master of Sports Administration has placed second in Europe and is one of the top-10 best programs worldwide.

Project Manager Yulia Sukhenko congratulated the graduates on behalf of the Vladimir Potanin Foundation. "The Foundation supports young, dedicated people, true professionals in their field who are committed to developing personally and driving social change," said Yulia. "We are very proud of everyone who joined our Fellowship Program and we're always interested in keeping track of their further career. Now you are a part of the RIOU graduate community and the community of the Vladimir Potanin Foundation fellowships holders. Keep up the good work and we all wish you continued success."

The list of attendees at the graduation and diploma award ceremony included Alexander Katushev, COO of the Russian Olympians Foundation, Tatyana Fomichenko, Head of the Science and Education Department for the Russian Ministry of Sport, Professor James Skinner, Chairman of the RIOU Certification Committee, and Vassil Girginov, Head of the Master of Sport Administration program, Doctor of Economics, Professor of Brunel University (UK) and President of the European Association for Sports Management.

The Russian International Olympic University is currently accepting applications for the 2019/2020 Master of Sport Administration program which will be taught in English. Applications for Olympic scholarships from the Vladimir Potanin Foundation can be submitted to RIOU until July 31.
